EcoPhage Submits its Third Biopesticide Application to U.S. EPA

EcoPhage, a leader in the development and commercialization of sustainable phage-based biopesticides for bacterial plant diseases, announced the submission of EcoBrass® to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (″EPA″) for regulatory approval. This marks the company’s third product submission, based on its proprietary research platform, developed together with the Weizmann Institute of Science.

EcoBrass® is designed to control black rot, a highly destructive bacterial disease of Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) crops, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc). The disease damages leaf tissue and vascular systems, leading to wilting, stunted growth, and significant yield loss. The Cruciferae family include crops like cabbage, broccoli, kale, bok choy, turnips and others.

EcoBrass® follows EcoPhage’s previous EPA submissions, GoldenEco®, targeting bacterial diseases in tomatoes and peppers caused by Xanthomonas and Pseudomonas, and EcoFire®, developed to control fire blight in apples and pears caused by Erwinia amylovora.

Current control methods rely on chemical disinfectants and metal-based compounds that are increasingly restricted due to toxicity, environmental impact, and declining effectiveness, alongside growing consumer concerns about the health and environmental risks associated with harmful chemical pesticides. Resistance development further underscores the need for safer alternatives.

EcoPhage’s phage-based biopesticides are non-GMO, residue-free, and environmentally friendly, providing targeted control of harmful bacteria while preserving beneficial organisms. The company’s research platform enables efficient development of scalable, zero-residue solutions that improve crop health, yield, and quality while reducing reliance on chemical treatments.

″We are proud to submit our third product to the EPA again underscoring the strength and scalability of our research platform,” comments Guy Elitzur, CEO of EcoPhage. “With growing pressure on traditional chemical inputs, there is a clear and urgent need for biological solutions that integrate smoothly into current crop protection spray programs. We are delighted to deliver another innovative and safe product to the market.”
